Ruby Nelda Perez is an actor who has been touring professionally throughout the USA, Mexico, and Latin America for over thirty years. Ms. Perez, born in Chicago, Illinois, was raised in the small south Texas town of Alice. Ms. Perez received her theatrical experience at Texas A&I University in Kingsville, TX. There she was introduced to Latin American Theatre by the late Dr. Joseph Rosenberg with whom she founded El Teatro Bilingue de Kingsville that toured extensively in Mexico.

In 1977 she performed “Historias para ser Contadas / Stories to be told” at the John F. Kennedy Performing Arts Center where she was honored with the Award of Excellence medal. Later that year, she became a founding member of El Teatro Bilingue de Houston (now Talento Bilingue de Houston). In 1980, Ms. Perez received a two year contract with El Teatro de la Esperanza in Santa Barbara, CA which had toured extensively. In 1982, she accepted the position of Artistic/Project Director for El Teatro Bilingüe de Houston. In 1984, she became a member of Los Actores de San Antonio with the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center.

During the next eight years, Ruby Nelda Perez performed in many productions; including, Roosters, Real Women Have Curves, La Victima, El Milagro, and Heroes & Saints. Author Sandra Cisneros, who was the Literary Director of the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center, commissioned Ruby to interpret several Latina poems for the stage during The International Women’s Day; and thus, beginning her solo career with the new work, “A Woman’s Work”. In 1994, Ruby collaborated with playwright Rodrigo Duarte Clark, Artistic Director of El Teatro De La Esperanza, in creating the successful one-person production of “Doña Rosita’s Jalapeño Kitchen” that premiered at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center. Ruby’s character, Doña Rosita, received exceptional recognition from both critics and audiences. By 1999, Ruby and playwright Duarte Clark again had collaborated with “Doña Rosita’s Day of the Dead” that premiered at Jump-Start Performance Company in San Antonio. Ms. Ruby Nelda Perez has received numerous awards and recognitions throughout her career.
